What We Do

We provide an established communication platform which effectively represents all HMB Berth Owners’ interests and, in cooperation with the Auckland Maritime Foundation, continue to develop and maintain a marina facility which is sustainably World Class for all owners to benefit.

Benefits:

Berth owner representation – the Association has a formal agreement with Auckland Maritime Foundation, the charitable trust that operates Half Moon Bay Marina. The agreement provides for representation in respect of the following matters:

  1. The nomination and selection of Trustees.

  2. Quarterly Berth Operations meetings to review marina operations, and review financial performance in relation to the budget, maintenance and capital expenditure.

  3. Three yearly review of berth license fees – to fully and fairly assess accounts and related material and procedures to ensure the proposed license fees constitute a fair, but not excessive, return to the Trust.  This process has regard to direct operating costs relating to the marina berths and associated parking and ancillary facilities (e.g. power, water, security, cleaning, rubbish removal, etc).

  4. Membership in the Association provides an avenue for your views to be heard and for you to support on-going representation that protects Berth Owners’ rights.

  5. Allows you to get to know other boaties as well as your immediate neighbours, and provides updates on matters of general interest.

  6. Access to an Insurance scheme offering excellent cover at a very competitive price.

 SUMMARY OF STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

SHORT TERM

The Berth Owners Committee is to work with the AMF to ensure all ‘day to day’ operational costs and services are provided in an efficient, transparent, and competitive manner. The principal forum for representations on these matters shall be through our appointed representatives to the Operations Committee.

MEDIUM TERM

The inherent value of Berth Ownership is largely dependent upon the existing Licence document in its current format, and the traditional protocols associated with it.

The Association provides experienced representation at the 3 yearly review of the Berth Licence fee, complemented by detailed knowledge of the three main land regulations as they pertain to the marina, being:

  1. The Perpetual licence for the seabed administered by DOC (every 14 years - next renewal 2030),

  2. The Ground lease (every 21 years - next renewal 2037)

  3. The 35 year resource consent which will apply to the North Pier and the communal breakwater (next renewal 2055).

LONGER TERM

The long-term goal of the Berth Owners Committee is to ensure that all Berth Owner assets are protected within a secure and stable ownership structure, such as currently exists.

To ensure that the value of the Berth Licence itself is maintained and enhanced, it also must remain readily tradeable on the open market.
